Where are all going through many changes at the moment with summer and the children being home, not to mention what is happening with the market yes? It seems as though the world is forever changing and it does what it likes and does not consult anyone else for that matter. When this happens it can affect almost anything that we are involved with at the time, say the market starts to crash and we are left with uncertainty about our business, or as it happened already the GST decided to inflate leaving us wondering why and how we were going to get through such times. Yes, strange things have been happening to us over the last few years and it does not seem to be getting any better really does it? There are some of us that are doing fine and may not have noticed anything wrong; however the few of us that have felt the credit crunch and are still facing uncertain times will be wondering “should I really be selling a business?”
When you buy your business all your hopes and dreams might be coming true then and there and you could think that nothing will ever be the same again. Well you are right about nothing ever being the same because having your own business is a tough job, and not one that too many people seem to succeed at either. So you spend the long nights getting it up and running and making sure that all the little aspects are put together just right. You try your hardest to make the business represent what you are trying to say to your clients and to the world and that they know what it is you stand for as well. You start hiring employees to go along on the journey with you and perhaps you still have some of those employees today. After all that struggle and triumph and maybe not so much triumph you are thinking of selling a business and moving on and you want to know if it’s a good idea?
If we think about what it is we want next and the business we own at the moment is just not in our plans then yes it is the right idea. You could of course just semi-retire and let that competent manager of yours take over the reins and continue on for you; however it will always be there in the back of your mind wont it? I mean once you have built a business up from the ground and run it for how many years you really cannot stop thinking about it can you? It is always there giving you ideas and helping you with solutions as well.
So maybe it is time to sell and you just do not know how to go about it? That is the problem that most people have when they decide to sell and because they are not too sure where to go and how to make it a good experience, they often make the wrong choices and go down a path that they did not have to in the first place. Have a good look around at the places that can help you figure out what you want to do and how you actually want to go about it. It may not be your business for long, however you do get a say in how it is going to be sold.
Selling a business is just as important as buying a business and a number of things can go wrong. Just remember the steps that you took when you were thinking of buying and go down that road again with a company that can help you sell.
